Chen Hong

Chen Hong Biography
Art is a career for some people and a passion for other, but for Ju-Hong Chen it is part and parcel of his life. From his earliest years he has followed his own path and striven against all odds to transform his wide talents into art that makes a deeply personal statement, art that brings his own individuality to the world of art.

Ju-Hong's drive was not just to be an artist. He believed that the best way to become a true artist was to train oneself. Never a student at any art school, he combined his own drive with his experiences appreciating art. Before the Cultural Revolution of the 1960's it was not too difficult to gain some exposure to art. There were books, prints, exhibitions, and concerts of both traditional and modern art from China and abroad. While this type of activity was not common, there was enough to get a real taste of art. This process left him free to experiment and create without interference. As the Communist Party saw art as a political tool of social control, he thereby avoided the socialist realist official line training of the official art schools. His own unfettered approach gave him the dynamic to express himself in his own ways.
